I started this shortly after I woke up and… now it’s 8pm? Wow, where does time go. I gotta get faster at this.

Headshots for the main cast of They Can’t Be Heroes (minus Phil who is an ostrich), something me and Hilary are throwing around. Gratuitous use of a paper texture and Photoshop filters included, because I thought it would be fun and it looks kinda cool.

There are still a couple of details I’m not too sure of, so I might make a few tweaks to how these characters look, but nothing too big.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT EVERYONE!

These are some preliminary sketches for a webcomic with my illustrious friend Rita called “They Can’t Be Heroes,” which is about a group of people trying to get by in New York City… who happen to all have superpowers, ranging from FUCKING AWESOME to a little bit useful but still really cool.  We wanted to make a series that dealt with real stuff while still being something interesting.  THEY ARE NOT FINALIZED YET, but we’ve been developing them slowly since 2008ish so they’re pretty fleshed out.

In order from the top:

Reggie, our main character.  Recent Ivy graduate who is in incredible amounts of debt like 95% of post-undergrads.  He has the power to generate multiple limbs that have free will that enable him to perform ma variety of tasks at once.  I’m pretty much head over heels, to be fair.

Penny, who I have the biggest soft spot for.  She has the ability to control light sources, electric and natural.  She has been through rough times and seen probably too much for someone as young as she is, but she’s strong.  A beautiful person all around.  Reggie… well, you’ll see. 

Sly.  No one knows anything about him.  Seriously.  Even his powers are mysterious, but they are formidable.  He’s around seventeen, probably a genius and ruined Phil’s life at a very young age.  He’s also really fucking hot.  People fall for him on the regular.  Even Reggie, who is straight as a ruler, gets a bit hot under the collar.

Terramina, nicknamed Mina, originally from Alaska where her parents were dorky scientists.  She works in construction and has super strength.  Lesbian who is extremely comfortable with herself.  Anger management issues would be understating it.

Ari(adne), but prefers Ari.  Hot-shot lawyer with the power of persuasion/seduction — helpful with her cases.  Older than everyone in the house, she came from an incredibly privileged background and is having trouble adjusting to, ya know, how the rest of us live.  Mina has to teach her.  Hilarity ensues.

Remy is a model who works a variety of print jobs. Male assigned at birth, they have the ability to switch genders at will.  Generally comfortable with any gender expression — they are still them regardless.  They are beautiful and use it to their advantage, but are at times are insecure in romantic relationships. 

Donnie.  Ohhh Donnie.  He is from somewhere in Middle America, a wholesome American guy who is sweet as pie.  He doesn’t have any powers, really, BUT HE CARES, OKAY.  Adorable.  Everyone finds him rather endearing.  He cooks and makes sure everyone is comfortable when they get home from crimefighting.

AAAAAAAND that is all for now.  Hopefully I didn’t go overboard.  I’m just excited.
